Local Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then found numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests suggest the substance was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A senior political figure commented the incident left him speechless and required to be resolved quickly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
