The accused admitted 17 criminal counts at the courthouse on Friday

An individual who contaminated treats with sedative and distributed them to minors at a youth camp in the region has confessed to sexual crimes against two boys both nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight minors and a grown-up became sick at the facility in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.

Yet, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

The defendant was held in detention before a additional proceeding on late November.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She stated his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer program which he operated.

Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She told the court the man had played this game with the children "for many years", and minors had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She stated the man had been able to explain this over a long period as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had suspicions in summer 2025.

The legal representative stated further: "In the summer" his stepchild had suspicions about the activities, for good reason.

"They chose" to have a look in the individual's items."

The legal counsel explained objects including lubricant, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his worries.

She explained Ruben proceeded to engage in the "candy game" with six youngsters that night - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that stage," she added.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, had stated that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

Mrs Prior explained the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the stepson notified the authorities again.

She said the defendant then engaged in the "treat game" in a room of five youngsters.
